Flood Disaster Relief Opportunity

Due to recent flash floods in Waverly, TN, the town’s only elementary school was severely damaged. All 10,000+ books in their library are ruined.

Each President of the GFWC of TN (General Federation of Women’s Clubs) comes up with a state-wide service project that is near and dear to them. For this term, it is the TRTL (pronounced Turtle) project, “Together, Replenishing Tennessee Libraries.

Originally, the project was going to concentrate on the four counties in TN whose elementary school libraries don’t reach the minimum requirement of 12 books per student. Clubs throughout the state have been tasked to collect and donate high quality hardcover library books for K-6th grade to those four counties.

Due to the flood emergency, the school in Waverly has been added to the list. We will be collecting new and very gently used hardcover books appropriate for students from K-6/8th Grade. They need both classics and contemporary literature. We will also accept monetary donations that will be used to purchase books at a discount and other items needed by the school librarian. The GFWC of TN is 501(c)3 tax-exempt. All donations gratefully accepted. Please reach out to our club for more information. Our email address is gfwcspringstation AT gmail DOT com.
